Starting today! The Tibeten monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct an Akshobhya mandala sand painting by pouring millions of grains of colored sand into place over a period of 16 days. This year’s theme is “Healing a Conflicted World.” The monks will begin construction of the mandala on December 3rd and will continue their creation through December 16th. You can go and view their progress for free anytime between 10am and 4:30 pm. The Drepung Loseling monks will also lead chant and meditation sessions at the end of each day’s construction, giving the public an opportunity to meditate with them between 4:30 and 5:00 pm. Plus while you’re there you can get some holiday shopping done! Drepung Loseling Monastery derives a major part of their funding through the sale of their gift items and the monks will be setting up a gift table with books, jewlery, scarves, incense, and decorative items.
