Starting today! The Tibetan monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct an Green Tara mandala sand painting by pouring millions of grains of colored sand into place over a period of 9 days.
Green Tara is called upon for protection, health, happiness, wisdom, abundance and success. The monks will begin construction of the mandala today, December 8th and will continue their creation through December 16th. You can go and view their progress for free anytime between 10am and 5:30 pm. The Drepung Loseling monks will also lead chant and meditation sessions at the end of each day’s construction, giving the public an opportunity to meditate with them between 4:30 and 5:00 pm.
Plus while you’re there you can get some holiday shopping done! Drepung Loseling Monastery derives a major part of their funding through the sale of their gift items and the monks will be setting up a gift table with books, jewelry, scarves, incense, and decorative items.
