To the east, Santa Fe is flanked by the end of the Rocky Mountains and this section of the mountain range is called the Sangre de Cristo, which means Blood of Christ in Spanish. Here’s a capture of the “Sangres,” as locals affectionately call these peaks, at sunset demonstrating so beautifully why people of long ago named them as such.
