Gustave Baumann

Gustave Baumann 3Returning to our New Mexican artists series…
Originally from Germany, Gustave Baumann was a painter and printmaker and a leading figure in the color woodcut revival in America. He moved to Santa Fe in 1918 and lived here until his death in 1971.

Baumann’s work depicted southwestern landscapes, scenes of Pueblo life, ancient Native American petroglyphs, and gardens and orchards. His woodcuts are beloved in Santa Fe and can be found in museum shops and gift shops on and off the Plaza.
