Atalaya Mountain Trail is one of our favorite hikes that can be accessed in town. If you’re able to secure a spot in the small parking lot in Wilderness Gate, then the hike to the peak is 3 miles long with options to take a steeper (and quicker) route, or an easier route to the top.
Another option is to park at St. John’s College and take the trail that begins there, although this adds an extra 3.2 miles to the hike.
Regardless of your starting point, the views from the mountain’s summit are breathtaking!
