Usually when we head up to Taos our time is limited so we take “The Low Road” which means following US84N to NM Hwy 68. The low road is a great, actually quite dramatic, drive if you’ve got limited time, but BY FAR the most spectacular way to visit Taos is via what’s known as “The High Road.” Towering peaks, lush hillsides, orchards, and meadows surround tiny, ancient Hispanic villages that are as picturesque as they are historically fascinating. The drive takes you through the badlands of stark, weathered rock where numerous Westerns have been filmed, and then into rolling foothills, lush canyons, and finally into pine forests.
